Formerly recognized as Twitter Blue, the platform has introduced the X Blue subscription tier, which allows users to opt for concealing their blue checkmark, reports TechCrunch. X Blue offers subscribers a blue checkmark on their profiles and unlocks access to various features, including X Pro (formerly TweetDeck). Despite its premium status, X Blue’s association might not be a label every user is eager to publicly display.
The “About X Blue” help page now includes a new feature called “Hide your checkmark.” This feature empowers subscribers to remove the blue checkmark from their account, concealing it on their profile and posts. While the checkmark might remain visible in certain instances and particular features could inadvertently expose the subscriber’s active subscription, the choice to hide it grants a level of discretion. However, certain features might become restricted during the period when the checkmark is hidden. The platform assures that this feature will continue to evolve to enhance the user experience.
The option to hide the checkmark was initially discovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who shared a screenshot of the Verification settings page in March, showcasing the ability to conceal the blue tick. Paluzzi noted that Twitter’s motivation behind this addition was to provide users with comprehensive control over account verification and identity-related aspects.
Following the change in name to X Blue and Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the premium subscription service has undergone notable evolution. New features have been introduced, including the capacity to edit tweets within an hour of posting, an extension of tweet length to 4,000 characters, and the restriction of SMS-based two-factor authentication (2FA) to subscribers. The pricing for X Blue varies depending on the platform utilized during the signup process.
