Lenovo Reportedly Developing a Competitor to Valve’s Steam Deck

Recent reports suggest that Lenovo is quietly crafting its own contender to Valve’s Steam Deck in the form of a PC gaming handheld, tentatively named the Lenovo Go. Citing unnamed sources, Windows Central disclosed this potential development.

Similar to the Steam Deck and the Asus ROG Ally, the Lenovo Go is designed to enable gaming on the go. What sets it apart is its 8-inch display, slightly larger than the 7-inch screens on its counterparts. Running on Windows 11, the handheld aims to provide seamless access to a wide range of games and applications.

Interestingly, the Lenovo Go is expected to differentiate itself by opting not to use AMD’s newly introduced Ryzen Z1 processors, which are tailored for PC gaming handhelds and are already integrated into the Asus ROG Ally. Instead, reports suggest that Lenovo’s handheld might incorporate AMD’s “Phoenix” CPUs, designed for laptops and capable of handling AI-based workloads.

If this development is indeed genuine, it could offer consumers an additional choice in the realm of PC gaming handhelds. However, there remains the possibility that the Lenovo Go might not materialize. The timing of its potential launch and even its eventual existence remain uncertain, as outlined by Windows Central.

While Lenovo has not yet responded to requests for comment, the company’s history hints at an earlier attempt in 2021 with a handheld device named the Lenovo Legion Play. Although initially designed for Android gaming, it had the capacity to stream Windows-based games through cloud services like Nvidia’s GeForce Now. While that project was delayed, the Lenovo Go could potentially signify a renewed effort with enhanced capabilities.
