Google has expanded its translation feature from the web version of Gmail to its Android and iOS applications, offering users a convenient solution for emails in unfamiliar languages. With a repertoire spanning more than 100 languages, this tool seamlessly identifies emails written in languages different from your primary one.
Gmail’s functionality is smartly aligned with your preferred language setting, determined by your chosen “Gmail display language.” When an email arrives in a foreign language, a “Translate to” banner emerges at the email’s top. This allows you to decide whether to retain the email’s original language or have Gmail translate it for you.
For users frequently encountering emails in a specific language, there’s an option to have Gmail consistently translate that language. Conversely, for those who are multilingual and prefer reading messages in their original form, Gmail can be set to avoid translating a particular language.
Even if you’ve opted out of automatic translation, the translate feature remains easily accessible. A simple tap on the app’s three-dot menu brings up the translation option, providing a solution for deciphering challenging emails.
