As the launch of the iPhone 15 approaches, speculations abound regarding significant changes to the storage capacity of the iPhone 15 Pro model.
According to reports from 9to5Mac, the iPhone 15 Pro is anticipated to offer storage options ranging from 256GB to a whopping 2TB. This would mark a departure from the current iPhone 14 Pro lineup, which includes configurations of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
The information originates from Korean blogger yeux1122, who claims to have obtained details about the 2TB storage option from a source within the supply chain. Furthermore, a Weibo user has suggested that the storage tiers for the iPhone 15 Pro could begin at 256GB instead of the current 128GB. However, this claim is presented as a “hope” rather than a confirmed fact.
If the starting storage point is indeed 256GB, it implies a doubling of storage capacities compared to the iPhone 14 Pro, potentially resulting in storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. This increase in storage could prove beneficial, especially for features like Pro Res recording mode, which demands substantial storage during 4K60 video recording.
The iPhone 15 is expected to come with a slightly higher price tag compared to its predecessors. This pricing adjustment, estimated to be an additional $100 to $200 per model, could be attributed to the inclusion of expanded storage sizes. Previously, the speculated price increase was attributed to enhanced features on the phones.
In terms of competition, devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra currently offer a maximum storage capacity of 1TB. Notably, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has suggested that Apple’s iPhone 15 announcement is likely to take place on September 12 or 13, in line with the company’s tradition of unveiling new iPhones in mid-September. Additionally, reports indicate that mobile carriers have instructed employees not to take days off on September 13 due to a major smartphone announcement.
In addition to the potential price increase and expanded storage, the iPhone 15 is rumored to adopt a Dynamic Island design at the top, replacing the notch across all models. The charging mechanism is expected to transition from Apple’s proprietary Lightning charger to USB-C. As with previous updates, the phone is poised to feature an upgraded processor and enhanced camera capabilities. This year’s release is also projected to offer slimmer bezels, contributing to a higher screen-to-body ratio.
