Sony is currently in the midst of beta testing cloud streaming for PS5 games, and lucky recipients of invites have confirmed that the service indeed supports 4K streaming capabilities.
According to a report from Eurogamer, Sony has included select PlayStation Plus Premium members in the latest PS5 Public Beta by sending them voucher codes via email. These codes grant them access to try out the new PS5 game cloud streaming feature.
Screenshots shared on Resetera have corroborated the compatibility of Sony’s cloud streaming service with various resolutions, including 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p (4K). Among the screenshots is one displaying the PS5 settings page for PlayStation Plus, with a “Max Resolution” setting set to 2160p. Another screenshot shows God of War Ragnarök being streamed at 2160p.
The addition of 4K streaming is noteworthy, especially when compared to Microsoft’s current lack of a similar option for Xbox game cloud streaming. Sony introduced the revamped PlayStation Plus in the previous year, unveiling three subscription tiers. The highest tier, PlayStation Plus Premium ($17.99 per month / $119.99 per year), promised access to cloud streaming for games from PlayStation, PS2, PSP, PS3, and PS4 on a PS4, PS5, or PC. In June of this year, Sony announced the inclusion of PS5 game streaming, although it did not detail resolution options at that time.
