Sony is currently in the process of beta testing cloud streaming for PS5 games, and fortunate recipients of invites have verified that the service indeed offers 4K streaming capabilities.
In accordance with Eurogamer’s report, Sony is including select PlayStation Plus Premium members in the latest PS5 Public Beta by providing them with voucher codes through email. These codes enable them to experience the new PS5 game cloud streaming feature.
Screenshots posted on Resetera have validated the compatibility of Sony’s cloud streaming service with resolutions including 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p. Among the screenshots is one showcasing the PS5 settings page for PlayStation Plus, featuring a “Max Resolution” setting adjusted to 2160p. Another screenshot exhibits God of War Ragnarök being streamed at 2160p.
The introduction of 4K streaming holds significance, particularly when contrasted with Microsoft’s current absence of a similar option for Xbox game cloud streaming. Sony introduced the revamped PlayStation Plus in March of the previous year, unveiling three subscription tiers. The highest tier, PlayStation Plus Premium ($17.99 per month / $119.99 per year), assured access to cloud streaming for PlayStation, PS2, PSP, PS3, and PS4 games via a PS4, PS5, or PC. In June of this year, Sony announced the incorporation of PS5 game streaming, although it did not delve into resolution options at that time.
