Google Translate Arrives on Gmail’s iOS and Android Applications

When an email arrives in your Gmail inbox in a language you’re not familiar with, the solution is now at your fingertips. Google has extended its translation feature from the web version to its Android and iOS applications. With support for over 100 languages, this tool operates seamlessly and intuitively, identifying emails that might be in a language other than your primary one.

Gmail intelligently selects your preferred language based on your chosen “Gmail display language” within your settings. As soon as you receive an email in a foreign language, a “Translate to” banner will appear at the top of the email. From there, you can choose whether to retain the email’s original form or let Gmail translate it for you.

For those frequently encountering emails in a specific language, there’s an option to have Gmail automatically translate that language each time. Conversely, if you’re bilingual and prefer reading messages in their original language, you can set Gmail to never translate that specific language.

If you’ve opted out of automatic translation but encounter a challenging email, the translate menu is easily accessible. Simply tap the three-dot menu within the app to find the translation option.
